Book review: Law 14 of the 21 Irrefutable laws of leadership.

Law of Buy-In

INTRODUCTION:
"People don't at first follow worthy causes. They follow worthy leaders who promote courses they can believe in".

REVIEW:
"The leader finds the dream and then the people. The people finds the leader and then the vision" (the author). He explained this with the story of Mohandas Gandhi, called Mahatma; revealing how his non-violence method made people buy into him and thereafter his cause.

Like a typical Nigerian, the author answers a vital question with yet another question when asked by someone, "Do you think my people will buy into my vision?" Thus answering, "first tell me this, do your people buy into you?" He went on to make it clear that what one carries isn't as important as it's conveyed/communicated. Like he said, "every message that people receives is filtered through the messenger who delivers it. If you consider the messenger to be credible, then you believe the message has value".

He explained, "if in the past you tried to get people to act on your vision but unable to make it happen, you probably came up against the law of Buy-in - maybe without even knowing it".

Concluding, he revealed that delaying in taking some decision helps buy enough time for people to buy into you. And here are his final words, "your success is measured by your ability to actually take the people where they need to go. But you can do that only if the people first buy into you as a leader".

LESSON:
1. Know the bottom line of why you are a leader. Focusing on that can make people buy into you (they naturally follow a leader that know his direction).
2. Think about ways you can earn credibility with individuals and start working.
3. Read 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership by John C. Maxwell...law 14.

Remember! Keep SHIINE'ing'...we depend on that!!!
