Law of the Picture.
INTODUCTION:
"The living picture people see in their leader produces energy, passion and motivation to keep going. People do what people see".
REVIEW:
Surprisingly, the author started by stating with a story the effect of having a bad picture. Culled from his story, distrust, uncertainty and failure admist others are products of having a bad picture.
He said that, "great leaders always seem to embody two seemingly disparate qualities. They are both highly visionary and highly practical". Having said this, he went further to explain how important having a vision is as it enables the leaders to see beyond the immediate. On this he advised that, "leaders are practical enough to know that vision without action achieves nothing".
As we strive to improve as an example to our followers, the author mentioned few qualities we should have in mind that can help achieve that desire which are as follows;
Followers are always watching what you do.
It's easier to teach what's right than do what's is right.
We should work on changing ourselves before trying to improve others.
The most valuable gift a leader can give is being a good example.
He didn't forget to mention that even in the face of adversity, the way leaders picture the situation is of utmost importance because it either motivates his followers or de-motivates them.
Ending, he made a point that good leaders must communicate the vision clearly, creatively and continually. Like he said, "the leader's effective communication of the vision makes the picture clear...the leader's effective modelling of the vision makes the picture come alive".
LESSONS:
1. Give yourself a character test. Know your core values, where you need to develop and then start work.
