Not long was I out of a long discussion which I will term one of the best arguments I have done in a while was I inspired to write about the rate of unemployment which has turned to be the excuses of most Nigerian graduates. My friends weren’t surprised how I stood firm that the graduates are to be blamed mostly; because they think it was my behavior (being a choleric can do a lot of arguments) of course they were wrong. It wasn’t my temperament; it was a burden I had always wanted to lift off!
Writing this doesn’t make me ignorant of the poor education system and poor employment structures (if any) created by the government due to corruption that seems will take ages to be clipped out. But it makes me think more about what the graduates our so-called higher institutions produce yearly or bi-annually can actually do for my beloved country other than grumbling about how they have become job seekers for years.
Ask a street nuisances and he will shout immediately, “work no dey ooh!”, turn to an apprentice and you will get the same response in a better way “no work ooh!”. Look up to a graduate (with even better results) and you will hear him/her say the exact word spoken by someone who has never gone to school but in a more sophisticated way, “been searching thoroughly yet no work”. Due to this painful truth, I decided to discuss on some of the reasons why “no work” has become a cliché in our country.
Dreamless.
Though generally we agree that our educational system was design to serve, to become good employees, good managers and never an entrepreneur, most graduates still don’t mind being servants as long as their bills are paid. Of course we should keep the cultures of our society living by becoming doctors, lawyers, et cetera but check this out, if you had the dream to become the best doctor, the be the first discovery in Nigeria or to be the best of what you are doing now or studied in school, you will have your hand occupied than following in the chorus “no work”.
Dependent.
A great American President who recognized the importance of being independence said, “Ask not what your country will do for you but ask what you can do for your country”. What have you made up your mind to do for your country? If you have an answer to this question, believe me, you wouldn’t have time to look for job.
Ignorant
A wise man revealed, “If you think knowledge is expensive, try ignorance”. The book of Hosea said it all, “my people perish because of lack of knowledge”. What has ignorance cost you? Most Nigerian graduates are really ignorant of how great they are or what great accomplishment they can do. In everyman lies a powerful self and the earlier we are aware of that personality and start developing them, the earlier we start focusing our mind to creating jobs than endlessly looking for one.
Fear
Do you know what will make a man who is able and if trained, capable to create millions of job to end up as the best manager of the year? Do you know what will make a graduates to live the opportunity of becoming the richest student while on campus? Fear! It has killed many jobs and talents than it has saved. Until most Nigerian students start taking calculated risks and not thinking about secured jobs with insurance, the rate of ‘no jobs’ carriers will drastically reduce.
Lazy
Amidst “no jobs”, Nigerian students (not even graduates) including school drop-outs and those who had no opportunity of going to school are very busy creating jobs. Look around, search around, ask around and you will see an opportunity that can pay your bills than sitting around waiting for government which isn’t at their maximum effectiveness to create a job for you.
There are a lot of reasons why we are so dependent on being employed than to be creative, to be innovative and to be original. “No work” has really become a general word in Nigeria and has to some extent lost its meaning. But we can change the course of our destiny. We can change the direction of our life. Will you end up as “no work” or “no time for all this work”? Then become you (a creator)!
I respect, love and believe in you! Keep SHIINE’ing’…Nigeria will be blessed at the brightness of your dawn!!!

SHIINE inspiration; The Men in You and 'I'.
Do you have this two voices that comes up when you want to make a decision? Then read...
One says you can
The other says you can't
I say you can do all you dream of
Because truly, you can!
The better says you are the best
The worse calls you the worst
I say you are the best of the best
Because truly, you are!
The powerful admires the real strength in you
The weak says with you there is hope for him
I say I have never seen any strength like yours
Because truly, I haven't
The optimist says there is always a way for you
The pessimist says, surely this is the end
I say nothing is bigger than you
Because truly, there isn't!
The good says you can be a better you
The bad says there is pleasure in being worse
I say I know you live to inspire others
Because truly, I believe...
We sat waiting for you to decide
Because no one can make a choice for you
But I just want you to know
That every choice you make builds or destroys you!

Book review: Law 15 of the 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership
Law of Victory
INTRODUCTION
"Leaders find a way for the team to win".
REVIEW:
Asking questions like, "What separates the leaders who achieve victory from those who suffers defeat?" "What does it take to make a team win?" The author answered, "It's hard to identify the quality that separates winners from losers. Every leadership situation is different...But I think that victorious leaders have one thing in common; they share an unwillingness to accept defeat".
Having said this, the author believes that the most incredible time for a leader to bring out the best in him (and the worst) is in crisis explaining in details with the story of Winston Churchill.
According to him(the author), there are uncertainties that must be made certain in other for the team to win which he termed 'component of victory'. They are;
UNITY OF VISION.
DIVERSITY OF SKILLS.
LEADERS DEDICATION TO VICTORY AND RAISING PLAYERS TO THEIR POTENTIAL.
He said the best leaders feel compelled to rise to a challenge and do everything in their power to achieve victory and pointed out the views of certain situation by victorious leaders which are;
Leadership is responsible.
Losing is unacceptable.
Passion is unquenchable.
Creativity is essential.
Quitting is unthinkable.
Commitment is unimaginable.
Victory is inevitable.
Concluding, he warned that our level of expectation and how dedicated we are to winning as leaders may determine whether we will succeed or fail and whether our team wins or losses.
LESSONS:
1. Taking responsibility of the team as a leader is the first step to winning with the team.
2. List down the skills necessary to achieve your goals and bring in the right people into the team.
3. Read 21 Irrefutable laws of Leadership by John C. Maxwell...Law 15.
Together, let's SHIINE!!!

SHIINE Biz: Nuggets from Success Carriers (part 1)
How would you feel when the boy next door whose parent couldn't afford his education twenty years ago employs you because you made a good result? Yes! The world kinda plays game at times. Of course we expect to be better, brighter and richer because we passed through a formal education, alas! History has proved us wrong as most of the richest entrepreneurs the world has ever know were either dropouts or they never had the opportunity.
Disclaimer: I will never advice that you quit school unless formal education isn't helpful to you any longer. Know your dream and everything it takes to achieve them and get to work!
I decided to 'call' on some of these rich people to give us what they know about each factors that leads to success. Read and enjoy!
1. DREAM/THINK
"I intend to be the richest man in the world" Howard Hughes
"If you can dream it, you can do it" Walt Disney
"Thinking is the hardest work to do, that's why so few people are engaged in it" Henry Ford
2. BELIEVE
"You don't have to be superhuman to do what you believe in" Debbi Fields
"All my life, people have said that I wasn't going to make it" Ted Turner
3. KNOWLEDGE
"The first year, I didn't have much capital so I did everything myself. I had to keep my overhead low by learning everything about running a business from accounting to fixing the gears of my equipment. I really started from the scratch" Li Ka Shing
4. HUNGER/FOCUS
"A good businessman must have nose for business the same way a journalist have nose for news. Once your eyes, ears, nose, heart and brain are trained on business, you sniff business opportunities everywhere" Orji Uzor Kalu
"I had to give it a full go and see what happened" Micheal Dell
5. GET TO WORK
"I had to make my own living and my own opportunity! But I made it! Don't sit down and want opportunities to come, get up and make them" Madam C.J Walker
6. RISK
"To win big you sometimes have to take big risks" Bill Gate
7. COMMITMENT
"If I make a commitment to something I will stick to it no matter what" Jenny Craig
8. PERSISTENCY
"Many of life's failure are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up" Thomas Edison
9. AIM HIGHER ALWAYS
"Good is not enough; you have got to be great" Simon Cowell.
10. NO EXCUSE
"When you reach an obstacle, turn it into an opportunity. You have the choice. You can overcome and be a winner or you can allow it to overcome you and be a loser. The choice is yours and yours alone...it is far better to be exhausted from success than to be rested from failure" Mary Kay Ash
These success nuggets can really go a long way of shaping your way to greatness. Though I believe to be yourself is a really nice and right thing to do, but learning from the experience of people who have made an irrefutable impact in the world is a be great thing to do. Don't fail your future!!!
Conclusion: I will in subsequent time post the second part revealing the views of success secrets by rich successful graduates.
Keep SHIINE'ing'....

SHIINE inspiration; If John could...you can! part 2
2 days later (after the incident)
We were enjoying a bottle of whiskey in a bar (something we usually do on weekends). We were fet to talk about what happened - though we both knew sooner than later the topic will be brought up. So I decided to start up;
"What happened?" I asked.
John looked at me and gulped down one shot of the drink.
"The truth man, is that most times I iiii don't know if I can do this..."
"Do what?" I intrude still thinking when my friend became a stammerer.
"Do what am doing now - being a project man or even becoming a manager, I seriously don't know" he concluded.
I sat patiently watching my friend as he was drinking more. This was the same John who would want to take on all the projects when we were on campus. This was the same John that wanted nothing than a project manager...
Present...
What happened that night ended well for both John and I (I did like to keep it between us). But same has gotten hold of some of us, to our friends too - low self esteem. At a point, like John, we tend to believe we are no longer capable of doing what we knew we could do before. But I stand to tell you that this belief is not true and has never been true!
If you have been ridiculed or you have been trying and yet no success even when you used to succeed, now is not the time to quit (no time is). The stories of Abraham Lincoln, Nelson Mandela, Thomas Edison and a lot more proves that failure isn't failure until you approves it, until you stop trying.
Like I told John, "you can because truthfully, you can!" No one can do it better than you. Whatever it is, never lose that inward strength because every other strength (motivation) are tiny matters compared to it.
I believe in the person you are and in the one you want to become. So IF YOU COULD TURN AROUND, YOU CAN!...keep SHIINE'ing'...
Oops! I need you to know there are a lot of John around us, we need to make them belief in themselves too...

SHIINE inspiration; If John could...you Can! (part 1)
If John had know what was at stake, perhaps it would have affected the outcome of 'that day'. Maybe the result would have been different - better! All he needed was a little motivation from himself - I hear they call it inner-motivation or self inspiration - whichever it was, that was all John needed. He would have done better and he knew it.
I choose to write this even though John refused (I must have had your greatness at heart to defile a friends request!) I think it will do a greater good to educate you with John's ugly experience.
Flash back...4 days ago!
I was watching this foot ball match with John at the company's canteen (drinking a bottle of beer). John's team was already down with two. Just before the half time whistle, John received a call to come up. Believe me, I wouldn't have gone with him if it was my favorite team playing so I accompanied him and in a jiffy, we were on the thirteenth floor (thanks to science).
Waiting in the boardroom was the director of our company, a regional manager and bunch of others department managers. But something was odd! George was there. Yes! George and he was no manager! Everybody hated this guy. He always wanted to be in charge. "This guy is a pin in the butt", john murmured.
I was already giving John a head sign and he smiled. We both knew John was expecting a promotion to become a manager. In fact everybody knew about it and he had already started receiving congratulatory messages.
But the worst had happened! George has been promoted! "What about John?" I yelled (I was a regional manager so had a little power to show around). And here was what shook me.
"John has never lead a project"! Shouted my fellow regional manager. "He only brings up idea but that's not the only thing leaders do" he tried to explain. It then dawn on me that John had never lead a project...(To be continued).

SHIINE inspiration: 'it's a WIN-WIN!
In 1885, a young man used every penny he had to travel to Highland, Kansas for his college education @ Highladn college to be rejected because he was black.
For a few years, he tried to establish a homestead. In 1890, he again attempted to enroll in school and was accepted.
He went into arts (though he had a knack for growing things) and excelled greatly...in 1893, he won his first art prize in a world competition and his peoms published in newspapers.
But he left art for agriculture even when he loved art! What would have made him do such a thing when he was already very comfortable (especially as a black)?
George Washington Carver found more success with agriculture for producing more products from pea nuts and helping many poor black farmers...
Simply put, he found more fulfilment and success by thinking beyond himself...all he wanted was to impart people (positively)...
You can change a live today...you can IMPART lives this week...you can change the world with just living your life ONCE for others!!!

Inspirational: A rare talent lost....at 16!
Are you in the business of, "am too young to make a change", "I just haven't reached the age yet"; there is a little girl whose life (ended on the 14th Jan 2012) will change your mindset. I hope the life of Arfa inspires you. I believe you can! Read on....
A teenager who at age nine became the world’s youngest Microsoft Certified Professional has died after suffering complications resulting from an epileptic stroke.
Arfa Karim Randhawa, 16 from Faisalabad, Pakistan was given the Microsoft Certified Professional award at 9 and was subsequently invited to Microsoft’s headquarters by Bill Gates where she impressed the executives with her programming knowledge.
After Karim fell ill and was taken to hospital, Bill Gates apparently reached out to the family and offered to pay for her medical care, proposing moving Karim to the U.S. for better treatment, although doctors decided it was against her best interests given she was on a ventilator.
FOR all who knew her as well as a citizenry galvanised by her example, it is indeed tragic that a beacon of hope as bright as Arfa Karim Randhawa has been extinguished. The child prodigy became at the age of nine the world`s youngest Microsoft Certified Professional. In Pakistan, she was presented the Fatima Jinnah Gold Medal in the field of science and technology and the Salaam Pakistan Youth Award; she was the youngest person ever to be awarded the President`s Award for Pride of Performance.
A source of inspiration for thousands, young Arfa`s ascendant star was cut short by cardiac arrest in December, leading to her death in Lahore on Saturday night. How far she touched the lives of strangers can be gauged from the fact that her funeral procession in her ancestral village of Ramdewali, near Faisalabad wa
s attended by a large number of peo-ple who had never met her.
You can really achieve that which you have set out to do. Your age has never been a barrier....like I said, I believe in you!
oh yes! you can...
"Do you want to stand out in the world? Then be yourself. Be what you really are. This is the first step towards becoming better than you are now" (John Mason).
God in His wisdom created each man to be unique, to be great and like Orsen Marden discovered, "No man could be ideally successful until he has found his place or uniqueness...".
If you try to be like him, who will be like you? If you are him, who will be you? "Be yourself. Who else is better qualifies?" (Frank Giblin). The more you develop your potential, the more you accept your unique nature, the less you will become like someone else.
Gate,Durotoye, Zuckerberg, Einstein,Chimamada, Disney, Toyosi, Kuti, Edison, Agbani...the list goes on! They accepted who they are, what they are and instead of following others track, they have made their own trails.
Don't compromise yourself, "the more you are like yourself, the less you are like someone else" (Disney).
Together with our individual greatness, we can accomplish more. Let's keep SHIINE'ing'...many lives depends on that!!!
Thy labour of our heroes...: My first article on Facebook!
I could remember vividly when i was still in primary school. Reciting the National Anthem was what we loved most during the general assembly in the morning. We always wanted it, believe me, it was awesome. We would recite it and pray it never ended but to our disappointment, it always ended and the next day, we did it again.
I could still remember as though it happened just recently how I loved raising my voice when we reached ".... THY LABOUR OF OUR HERO PAST SHALL NEVER BE IN VAIN''. I was always happy yet i didn't even know what it meant. But actually, as innocent and sharp my brain was [as a child] i stored up every bit of it and was anxious to know what it really mean.
Our past heroes and heroines has done wonders to get us here. They have sacrificed a lot to see that we got the necessary things as freeborn to live. As visionaries, they laid the foundation on which not their mansion will be on it but the progress of humanity, the progress of NIGERIANS, the progress of YOU and I.
I was stunned when a friend told me he wanted to go into politics with the aim of getting a cut of the NATIONAL CAKE, it's embarrassing. Most times, THE YOUTHS OF TODAY STRIVE TO ACQUIRE THE PRODUCT OF THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE PAST WITHOUT QUEST TO PROVIDE WITH THEIR KNOWLEDGE THE PRODUCT FOR THE FUTURE .
This is not the time to blame someone, this is not the time to lament, Ken Kay jnr advised that, ''if you are upset over the things you don't have, you waste the ones you have''. But you have it all in you to be great, you have what it takes to realize that dream regardless of what people say you are, your handicap or your background [educationally or socially]. Nigeria is at a trying moment but John Kennedy remarked, ''don't ask what your country will do for you, ask for what you will do for your country''.
The absolute truth is that WE as the YOUTHS are great. It is now that life price is paid not later. Our heroes have laid a solid foundation for us; will their labour be in vain, will our contributions not worth their sacrifice, will they be proud of what we have become... the questions are numerous to write down.
You don't have to wait for another day, start now. I need you, WE need you, NIGERIA needs you. Many of us have started already, will you be left out while the wagon drives out
Remember, we made a promise to build a Nigeria, we pledged to serve this country, our MOTHERLAND with the best of our abilities, with the last of our strength. You have to start fulfilling that promise not for me, not for you but for US.
Together INDIVIDUALLY, with different ideas put together, Nigeria will reach to the zenith of success, the peak of peace and harmony. We are ONE regardless of our religion, our tribe, our culture, our gender... WE ARE ONE PROUDLY NIGERIA SO SHIINE!!!

Nigeria: What went wrong!!!
For some time now, I have not been myself. I see and hear things that I choose to call abnormal. When I speak, it comes to me knocking (hard) in my heart, when I sleep, it’s like I dwell yet in another world and even when I do what I love most (writing), it’s all that comes to me; The troubles - the insights - the QUESTIONS.
When did it start?
Was it the day I saw a child abused? Or the day children started hawking, the day our educational system fell like Goliath? Oh! Let me refresh your memory – just 20 years ago, JAMB results were brought to our doors, admission letters were given freely and other incentives were added for scholars to be more relaxed but all has changed. Was it the day our politicians started embezzling OUR money or the day religious crises became the order of the minute? Was it when the Biafra emerged or when the Niger-Delta militants wanted a ‘change’ or when the notorious BOKO HARAM had their ‘vision’?
Tell me, when our founding fathers made their sacrifice, was this what they expected? I often hear that, “Great leaders see the end from the beginning”. Was this the end they saw in the beginning? How I wished I was amidst, perhaps I would have influence the outcome of October 1st the oher way.
Everything has gone worst than anticipated. The breeze of death is inhaled in states like Plateau, Kaduna, Bornu and even the South-South region in the name of selfish desires. I hear some call it ‘Religious right’ and others refer to it as ‘human right’ obviously, it is GENOCIDE.
Our ‘so-called-leaders’ whom we didn’t even voted into office (to them, rigging is allowed) uses our money more than we use the toilet papers to invest outside the borders of this nation when the average brethren feeds with below 150 naira a day. They even went to the extent of negotiating with terrorists – I wonder when they will stop. Those who pilot the affair of this nation to better end up in peasantry luxury or six feet below the ground level.
Look at the youths, they have been given ‘forcefully’ the title
‘LEADERS OF TOMORROW’ yet the decisions of ‘next tomorrow’ are made by ‘yesterday leaders'’. I have had enough. Am just tired of looking at them – the unemployed youths, they roam around wondering what next to do, I fear they become the devil’s workshop. What about the prostitutes? I can’t even write anything.
This brings us to the questions
Where have we gone wrong to deserve the Nigeria we live today?
Why will so many ‘bad’ befall us?
When did it all start?
How did it all happen?
Who will save us?
I believe that in the darkest storm lies a silver lining. I have heard many times that stories leads to glory. I believe that we have enough stories to go with. I believe that YOU and I have a role to play. I believe we can form an incorruptible army to sweep Nigeria. I BELIEVE in YOU!

residential Address On The Implementation Of The Deregulation Policy In The Downstream Sector Of The Petroleum Industry, Sunday, January 15, 2012
________________________________________________
Dear Compatriots,
1. This is the second time in two weeks I will address you on the deregulation of the downstream petroleum sector. In the last seven days, the nation has witnessed a disruption of economic activities. Although, the economic imperatives for the policy have been well articulated by government, the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) went ahead to declare a nationwide strike.
2. There was also near-breakdown of law and order in certain parts of the country as a result of the activities of some persons or groups of persons who took advantage of the situation to further their narrow interests by engaging in acts of intimidation, harassment and outright subversion of the Nigerian state. I express my sympathy to those who were adversely affected by the protests.
3. At the inception of the deregulation policy, Government had set up the Justice Alfa Belgore Committee to liaise with Labour and other stakeholders to address likely grey areas in the policy, but despite all our efforts, Labour refused the option of dialogue and also disobeyed a restraining order of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria.
4. However, following the intervention of the Leadership of the National Assembly, and other well-meaning Nigerians, Labour accepted to meet with government, but this yielded no tangible result.
5. It has become clear to government and all well-meaning Nigerians that other interests beyond the implementation of the deregulation policy have hijacked the protest. This has prevented an objective assessment and consideration of all the contending issues for which dialogue was initiated by government. These same interests seek to promote discord, anarchy, and insecurity to the detriment of public peace.
6. Government appreciates that the implementation of the deregulation policy would cause initial hardships and commends Nigerians who have put forth suggestions and credible alternatives in this regard. Government also salutes Nigerians who by and large, conducted themselves peacefully while expressing their grievances. Let me assure you that government will continue to respect the people's right to express themselves within the confines of the law and in accordance with the dictates of our democratic space.
7. Government will continue to pursue full deregulation of the downstream petroleum sector. However, given the hardships being suffered by Nigerians, and after due consideration and consultations with state governors and the leadership of the National Assembly, government has approved the reduction of the pump price of petrol to N97 per litre. The Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) has been directed to ensure compliance with this new pump price.
8. Government is working hard to reduce recurrent expenditure in line with current realities and to cut down on the cost of governance. In the meantime, government has commenced the implementation of the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment projects: including the Federal Government- assisted mass transit programme which is already in place, and job creation for the youth.
9. Furthermore, the legal and regulatory regime for the petroleum industry will be reviewed to address accountability issues and current lapses in the Industry. In this regard, the Petroleum Industry Bill will be given accelerated attention. The report of the forensic audit carried out on the NNPC is being studied with a view to implementing the recommendations and sanctioning proven acts of corruption in the industry.
10. Let me assure Nigerians that this administration is irrevocably committed to tackling corruption in the petroleum industry as well as other sectors of the economy. Consequently, all those found to have contributed one way or the other to the economic adversity of the country will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
11. My dear compatriots, I urge you to show understanding for the imperatives of the adjustment in the pump price of petrol and give government your full support to ensure its successful implementation. I further appeal to Nigerians to go back to work and go about their normal duties as government has made adequate arrangements for the protection of life and property throughout the federation.
12. Government will not condone brazen acts of criminality and subversion. As President, I have sworn to uphold the unity, peace and order of the Nigerian State and by the grace of God, I intend to fully and effectively discharge that responsibility. Let me add that we are desirous of further engagements with Labour. I urge our Labour leaders to call off their strike, and go back to work.
13. Nigeria belongs to all of us and we must collectively safeguard its unity.
14. Thank you. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The best story about 'me' by Olori magazine (olorimag.com)
Ogbuagu “Shiine” Kenechukwu is the founder and director of S.H.I.I.N.E, an Interdenominational group, which seeks to promote the strengths of Nigerian youth towards engineering the country’s economic and social growth.
He spoke to us about the vision of the S.H.I.I.N.E group towards achieving a better Nigeria.
Tell us about how you got started with the S.H.I.I.N.E group?
At the age of 17, I became restless with the knowledge that many poor people were ignorant towards their own hidden greatness. I had this passion to encourage and motivate people to utilize whatever potential lied within them. At 18, I founded SHIINE to create a platform for people through seminars, workshops, magazines, talent hunts and online groups, to come together and foster those potentials.
What is the message that S.H.I.I.N.E is telling the world right now?
Right now, we have a project we are working on called ‘ProjectChoose the Right Career’ (PCTRC). We use this medium to work with the government in making it compulsory for every school to have at least two counsellors who will support young people in choosing the best path towards careers that fuel their passions but are essential in the vision of a better Nigeria. Nigeria has so much to give the world and we want to be a part of making this happen. This is our message to Nigeria and the world at large.
Tell us about some of the achievements S.H.I.N.N.E has made?
On the 18th of March 2011, SHIINE organized her first seminar and to date there have been two seminars on the theme of ‘Career Development/Entrepreneurship’. We gave away 20 career and educational books to two schools, without sponsors, and plan on doing much more, including publishing our first campus magazine.
What do you love most about the work you do?
It gives me great satisfaction seeing people inspired to do something they wouldn’t have otherwise done.
What has been the hardest challenge S.H.I.I.N.E has had to overcome?
Hmm…the hardest challenge, I would say, is combining the passion of the S.H.I.I,N,E crew and myself with the academics. We are making good progress.
Apart from God what or who inspires your work?
It goes without saying God is my first inspiration, but also I have to give credit to Toyosi Akerele (RISE). Her work in training and developing young people in the Nigerian workplace is invigorating. It keeps motivated towards the cause. She is a great inspiration.
If you could meet anyone in the world dead or alive, who what it be and what would you ask them?
I would love to meet Martin Luther King jnr. and Thomas Edison. I would ask them, “What made them take one more step when everyone said it was over?”
If you had to be a biblical character who would it be and why?
I would want to be David. When he was before God, he dropped his bravery, pride, wealth and everything. He loved God passionately and his courage could not be omitted.
If there was a word of wisdom you could leave to the world what would it be?
We all can and we can if we will…so let’s keep SHIINE’ing’.

Book review: Law 14 of the 21 Irrefutable laws of leadership.
Law of Buy-In
INTRODUCTION:
"People don't at first follow worthy causes. They follow worthy leaders who promote courses they can believe in".
REVIEW:
"The leader finds the dream and then the people. The people finds the leader and then the vision" (the author). He explained this with the story of Mohandas Gandhi, called Mahatma; revealing how his non-violence method made people buy into him and thereafter his cause.
Like a typical Nigerian, the author answers a vital question with yet another question when asked by someone, "Do you think my people will buy into my vision?" Thus answering, "first tell me this, do your people buy into you?" He went on to make it clear that what one carries isn't as important as it's conveyed/communicated. Like he said, "every message that people receives is filtered through the messenger who delivers it. If you consider the messenger to be credible, then you believe the message has value".
He explained, "if in the past you tried to get people to act on your vision but unable to make it happen, you probably came up against the law of Buy-in - maybe without even knowing it".
Concluding, he revealed that delaying in taking some decision helps buy enough time for people to buy into you. And here are his final words, "your success is measured by your ability to actually take the people where they need to go. But you can do that only if the people first buy into you as a leader".
LESSON:
1. Know the bottom line of why you are a leader. Focusing on that can make people buy into you (they naturally follow a leader that know his direction).
2. Think about ways you can earn credibility with individuals and start working.
3. Read 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership by John C. Maxwell...law 14.
Remember! Keep SHIINE'ing'...we depend on that!!!

Book review: Law 13 of the 21 Irrefutable laws of leadership.
Law of the Picture.
INTODUCTION:
"The living picture people see in their leader produces energy, passion and motivation to keep going. People do what people see".
REVIEW:
Surprisingly, the author started by stating with a story the effect of having a bad picture. Culled from his story, distrust, uncertainty and failure admist others are products of having a bad picture.
He said that, "great leaders always seem to embody two seemingly disparate qualities. They are both highly visionary and highly practical". Having said this, he went further to explain how important having a vision is as it enables the leaders to see beyond the immediate. On this he advised that, "leaders are practical enough to know that vision without action achieves nothing".
As we strive to improve as an example to our followers, the author mentioned few qualities we should have in mind that can help achieve that desire which are as follows;
Followers are always watching what you do.
It's easier to teach what's right than do what's is right.
We should work on changing ourselves before trying to improve others.
The most valuable gift a leader can give is being a good example.
He didn't forget to mention that even in the face of adversity, the way leaders picture the situation is of utmost importance because it either motivates his followers or de-motivates them.
Ending, he made a point that good leaders must communicate the vision clearly, creatively and continually. Like he said, "the leader's effective communication of the vision makes the picture clear...the leader's effective modelling of the vision makes the picture come alive".
LESSONS:
1. Give yourself a character test. Know your core values, where you need to develop and then start work.
2. All great leaders are great visionary.
3. Read 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership by John C. Maxwell...Law 13...

Law of Empowerment
INTRODUCTION:
"The main ingredient for empowering others is a high belief in people. If you believe in others, they will believe in themselves".
Starting with the Ford's story, we are shown by the author the consequences of not obeying this law. In his words about Henry Ford, he said, "Rather than identifying leaders; building them up; giving them resources, authority and responsibility; and then turning them loose to achieve, they alternately encourage and undermined their best people".
He made his point known when he said that, "if leaders wants to be successful, they have to be willing to empower others". And warned of the consequences of keeping others down as you will have to go down with them and might lose the power to lift self or others up.
As usual, he lifted few factors but this time were barriers to empowerment; like he said, "leading well is not about enriching yourself - it's about empowering others". The barrier as listed by the author are as follows;
Desire for job security.
Resistance to change.
Lack of self worth.
After explaining these, he went on to clarify with the story of Abraham Lincoln whom he called. "The president of empowerment".
"The truth is that empowerment is powerful - not only for the person being developed but also for the mentor. Enlarging others makes you large" says the author. Concluding, he said that the impact of the law of empowerment is an impact you can experience as a leader as long as you are willing to believe in people and give your power away.
LESSONS:
1. Always try to empower people you meet everyday. You could start with a number and grow into being a president of empowerment.
2. You must have values - you can't give what you don't have.
3. Read 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership by John C. Maxwell...law 12.

Law of the Inner Circle
INTRODUCTION:
"Every leader needs a team...a leader's potential is determined by those closest to him".
REVIEW:
From the start, the author dismisses the idea that when we see any gifted person, it's always believed that talent alone made him successful. He could as much say that, "talent alone can't make the best out of leadership, indeed a team is necessary for a leader to be effective and efficient".
Sadly but truthfully, he revealed, "...but when I boil down to its essence, I still see 21 things a leader must do well to lead effectively. However, at the same time, I also recognised that no single leader can do all 21 things well, that's why every leader needs a team of people".
He stretched on the importance of choosing the right people that forms the inner circle as giving some factors considered in making this choice. According to him, one important factor is checking how much excellence, maturity and good character is displayed in everything done by the individual. After which he advised to never stop improving our inner circle because one might ought to build his.
Concluding, he reminded us that, "only if you reach your potential as a leader do your people have a chance to reach their potentials".
In a nutshell, people's greatness are tied to leaders surrounding them...it all falls on leadership.
LESSONS:
1. Try building your inner circle (you can't cross a river by merely starring at it).
2. Spend time with them strategically, giving them extra responsibility and giving them credit for job well done (those in your inner circle).
3. Read 21 Irrefutable laws of leadership by John C. Maxwell...law 11.

1. Try building your inner circle (you can't cross a river by merely starring at it).
2. Spend time with them strategically, giving them extra responsibility and giving them credit for job well done (those in your inner circle).
3. Read 21 Irrefutable laws of leadership by John C. Maxwell...law 11.

Book review: Law 10 of 21 Irrefutable laws of leadership.
Law of connection.
INTRODUCTION:
"It's one thing to communicate to people because you believe you have something of value to say. It's another to communicate with people because you believe they have value...leaders touch the heart before they ask for a hand".
REVIEW:
Unlike popular thinking, the author believes that when it comes to working with people, the heart comes before the head. He went on to make certain and more understanding this belief when he said that, "the stronger the relationship you form with followers, the greater the connection you forge - and more likely those followers will be to want to help you"
He stressed that one important way to communicating in a group is relating to them as individuals as he gives out more ways which can help connect people to a leader which are;
Connecting with self.
Communicating with openness and sincerity.
Knowing your audience.
Living your message.
Going where they are.
Focusing on them, not yourself.
Believing in them.
Offering directions and hope.
Unconditionally, he says that it's the leaders job to come up first and not the people (though not so in few cases). As he puts it, "they take the first step with others and then make effort to continue building the relationship...". And warned that, "the tougher the challenge, the greater the connection...and it's more stressful".
Having made the difficulty of trying to connect known, he brightens the day as he mentions the result which obviously, far out weights the difficulties. According to him, employees and followers exhibit loyalty and strong work ethics and the vision of the leader becomes the aspiration of the people.
Closing, he warned, "don't ever underestimate the importance of building a relational bridge between yourself and the people you lead. To lead yourself, use your head, to lead others, use your heart". Remember, people don't care how much you know until they know how much you care.
LESSONS:
1. Try to like people around you, start valuing them consciously and in no time, you will unconsciously.
2. Learn to walk slowly through crowds; it's an opportunity to build relationships.
3. Read 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership by John C. Maxwell...law 10...
Remember to SHIINE, we count on you....

Law of Magnetism
INTRODUCTION:
"Who you attract is not determined by what you want. It's determined by who you are".
REVIEW:
Many a time I see or hear leaders making a profile list of people they require their service. Wearing the veil of ignorance, I always taught it was the best way it's done until the author revealed the secret of the law of magnetism with just SIX words, "who you are is who you attract".
To widen this belief, the author listed and explained various characteristics which attracts people to a leader which are; generation, attitude, background, values, energy, giftedness, leadership ability.
He advised, "if you are dissatisfied with the leadership ability of the people you attract, then embrace the law of process and work to increase your leadership skill. If you want to grow the organisation, grow the leader...on the other hand, if you attract the people you like, take the next step in effective leadership. Work at recruiting people who are different from you to staff your weakness...".
As he concluded, he reminded us that the qualities we desire in people we attract does not depend on anything but US and advised that we develop in areas of character and leadership.
LESSONS:
1. Mentoring is an important factor in developing into a greater leader.
2. If you are already attracting the kinds of people you desire, then it's time to take your leadership to the next level.
3. Read the 21 Irrefutable laws of Leadership by John C. Maxwell...Law 9...

A New Nigeria...Just Imagine.
Imagine a Nigeria that drowns in peace
Without hatred as all dwell at ease
It could be the start of something new
Like the morning tears we know as dew
Imagine a nation were love abide
Without discrimination that sets us aside
Propelling to the vision of our fathers
Like the true sons and daughters of our mothers
Imagine a unity that knows no bound
With loyalty and honesty that abound
For no peace is more
As the rain of progress pour
Imagine oh! Compatriot
For dreams is the best way to exploit
In these days of killing and sorrows
Like the days of sparrows.
Imagine, just imagine
In you a change emerge
What good will you activate
Before it all deteriorate
Imagine the height if we sow
The length we would row
Growing is our contemporary
Yet ours is temporary.
Imagine just for once
You who fear to pounce
See the picture of your fatherland
Feel the warmth of a motherland
Imagine Nigeria a better place
Imagine a country of many race
Imagine a proudly Nigeria
Imagine when it all happens with you and I
Just imagine.

Fuel Subsidy Removal: House stands with the people!!!
The House of Representatives directed the Federal Government to suspend the policy immediately. They also pleaded with Labour (under the umbrella of NLC and TUC) to reconsider on its decision to embark on a nationwide strike on Monday, January 9th, 2012.
The House also resolved that representatives of government and labour should meet on Tuesday for dialogue. It said the subsidy should be suspended pending the passage of the 2012 budget. The House set up an oversight committee to this effect.
This conclusion came after hours of deliberations in an emergency session to hear the views of those for and against the removal of petrol subsidy by the Goodluck Jonathan-led administration.

Dear Compatriots:
1. A week ago, I had cause to address Nigerians on the security challenges we are facing in parts of the country, which necessitated the declaration of a state of emergency in 15 Local Government Areas in four states of the Federation. That course of action attracted widespread support and a demonstration of understanding. With that declaration, government had again signaled its intention to combat terrorism with renewed vigour and to assure every Nigerian of safety.
2. The support that we have received in the fight against terrorism from concerned Nigerians at home and abroad has been remarkable. We believe that it is with such continued support that progress can be made on national issues. Let me express my heartfelt appreciation to everyone who has expressed a commitment to support us as we strive to improve on the country’s security situation, and build a stronger foundation for the future. The recent mindless acts of violence in Gombe, Potiskum, Jimeta-Yola and Mubi are unfortunate. I urge all Nigerians to eschew bitterness and acrimony and live together in harmony and peace. Wherever there is any threat to public peace, our security agencies will enforce the law, without fear or favour.
3. This evening, I address you, again, with much concern over an issue that borders on the national economy, the oil industry and national progress. As part of our efforts to transform the economy and guarantee prosperity for all Nigerians, Government, a few days ago, announced further deregulation of the downstream petroleum sector. The immediate effect of this has been the removal of the subsidy on petrol.
4. Since the announcement, there have been mixed reactions to the policy. Let me seize this opportunity to assure all Nigerians that I feel the pain that you all feel. I personally feel pained to see the sharp increase in transport fares and the prices of goods and services. I share the anguish of all persons who had travelled out of their stations, who had to pay more on the return leg of their journeys.
5. If I were not here to lead the process of national renewal, if I were in your shoes at this moment, I probably would have reacted in the same manner as some of our compatriots, or hold the same critical views about government. But I need to use this opportunity as your President to address Nigerians on the realities on the ground, and why we chose to act as we did. I know that these are not easy times. But tough choices have to be made to safeguard the economy and our collective survival as a nation.
6. My fellow Nigerians, the truth is that we are all faced with two basic choices with regard to the management of the downstream petroleum sector: either we deregulate and survive economically, or we continue with a subsidy regime that will continue to undermine our economy and potential for growth, and face serious consequences.
7. As you all know, the subject of deregulation is not new, we have been grappling with it for more than two decades. Previous administrations tinkered with the pump price of petroleum products, and were unable to effect complete deregulation of the downstream sector. This approach has not worked. If it did, we would not be here talking about deregulation today. I understand fully well that deregulation is not a magic formula that will address every economic challenge, but it provides a good entry point for transforming the economy, and for ensuring transparency and competitiveness in the oil industry, which is the mainstay of our economy.
8. As a President, elected and supported by ordinary Nigerians, and the vast majority of our people, I have a duty to bring up policies and programmes that will grow the economy and bring about greater benefits for the people. Let me assure you that as your President, I have no intention to inflict pain on Nigerians.
9. The deregulation of the petroleum sector is a necessary step that we had to take. Should we continue to do things the same way, and face more serious economic challenges? Or deregulate, endure the initial discomfort and reap better benefits later? I want to assure every Nigerian that whatever pain you may feel at the moment, will be temporary.
10. The interest of the ordinary people of this country will always remain topmost in my priorities as a leader. I remain passionately committed to achieving significant and enduring improvements in our economy that will lead to sustained improvement in the lives of our people.
11. I am determined to leave behind a better Nigeria, which we all can be proud of. To do so, I must make sure that we have the resources and the means to grow our economy to be resilient, and to sustain improved livelihood for our people. We must act in the public interest, no matter how tough, for the pains of today cannot be compared to the benefits of tomorrow. On assumption of office as President, I swore to an oath to always act in the best interest of the people. I remain faithful to that undertaking.
12. To save Nigeria, we must all be prepared to make sacrifices. On the part of Government, we are taking several measures aimed at cutting the size and cost of governance, including on-going and continuous effort to reduce the size of our recurrent expenditure and increase capital spending. In this regard, I have directed that overseas travels by all political office holders, including the President, should be reduced to the barest minimum. The size of delegations on foreign trips will also be drastically reduced; only trips that are absolutely necessary will be approved.
13. For the year 2012, the basic salaries of all political office holders in the Executive arm of government will be reduced by 25%. Government is also currently reviewing the number of committees, commissions and parastatals with overlapping responsibilities. The Report on this will be submitted shortly and the recommendations will be promptly implemented. In the meantime, all Ministries, Departments and Agencies must reduce their overhead expenses.
14. We are all greatly concerned about the issue of corruption. The deregulation policy is the strongest measure to tackle this challenge in the downstream sector. In addition, government is taking other steps to further sanitize the oil industry.
15. To ensure that the funds from petroleum subsidy removal are spent prudently on projects that will build a greater Nigeria, I have established a committee to oversee the implementation of the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme. I sincerely believe that the reinvestment of the petroleum subsidy funds, to ensure improvement in national infrastructure, power supply, transportation, irrigation and agriculture, education, healthcare, and other social services, is in the best interest of our people.
16. Fellow Nigerians, I know that the removal of the petroleum subsidy imposes an initial burden on our people, especially the rising cost of transportation. Government will be vigilant and act decisively to curb the excesses of those that want to exploit the current situation for selfish gains. I plead for the understanding of all Nigerians. I appeal to our youth not to allow mischief-makers to exploit present circumstances to mislead or incite them to disturb public peace.
17. To address the immediate challenges that have been identified, I have directed all Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government to embark immediately on all projects, which have been designed to cushion the impact of the subsidy removal in the short, medium and long-term, as outlined in the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme Document.
18. Tomorrow, 8th January, I will formally launch a robust mass transit intervention programme to bring down the cost of transportation across the country. The programme will be implemented in partnership with state and local governments, labour unions, transport owners, and banking institutions, and supported with the provision of funding at zero interest rate as well as import duty waiver on all needed parts for locally-made mass transit vehicles, which will create additional jobs in the economy.
19. We will keep these incentives in place for as long as it takes. I want to assure you that Government will not rest until we bring down the cost of transportation for our people. Let me thank the transporters’ associations that have agreed to reduce transport fares. I have directed the Minister of Labour and Productivity to work with these associations to come up with a sustainable plan to guarantee this within the shortest possible time.
20. In addition, I have ordered the mobilization of contractors for the full rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt –Maiduguri Railway Line and the completion of the Lagos-Kano Railway Line. I have also directed the immediate commencement of a Public Works programme that will engage the services of about 10, 000 youths in every state of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory. This will create an additional 370, 000 jobs.
21. Government has taken these decisions in the best interest of our economy, so that we not only have benefits today, but to ensure that we bequeath even greater benefits to our children and grandchildren.
22. Let me assure Nigerians that every possible effort will be made to ensure that we march forward, with a collective resolve to build a Nigeria that can generate greater economic growth, create and sustain new jobs, and secure the future of our children.
23. This Administration will aggressively implement its programme to reposition and strengthen our economy, while paying adequate attention to the immediate needs of our citizens.
24. I assure you all that we will work towards achieving full domestic refining of petroleum products with the attendant benefits.
25. As I ask for the full understanding of all Nigerians, I also promise that I will keep my word.
26. Thank you. May God bless you; and may God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Book review: Law 8 of the 21 Irrefutable laws of leadership.
Law of intuition
INTRODUCTION
"Leaders look at things differently than others do. They evaluate everything according to their leadership bias".
REVIEW:
Sadly, the author started with the discovery that not everyone are intuitive in the area of leadership but lifted the spirit when he made known that every person posses intuition.
He explained that the law of intuition depends on more than just facts but also on instincts, intangible factors like employee morale, organisational momentum and relational dynamics. He might as well mentioned resources and environment.
Arguably, he mentioned the advantage of being born with natural leadership ability (arguably because, the more you are down with natural talent, the more you are eager to equip yourself with knowledge. Most times, great leaders aren't those who have the natural talent, but those who put to practice what they have acquired). Nevertheless he revealed also that we could still work to develop and hone it as he listed the two ways of which intuition originates from; the combination of natural talent and learned skill.
In a nutshell, the author pointed out using Steve Jobs as an excellent example that leadership is really more of art than science. Here is what he has to say. "The principle of leadership are constant, but the application changes with every leader and every situation. That's why it requires intuition. Without it, leaders get blindsided and that's one of the worst things that can happen to a leader. If you want to lead long, lead well, stay ahead of others, you 've got to obey the law of intuition.
LESSON:
1. Be willing to trust your instinct.
2. Try being concious of your environment. Read people, know how they feel, read every situation and try making decisions without depending on the facts.
3. Read 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership by John C. Maxwell...law 8...

Law of Respect
INTRODUCTION:
"When people respect you as a person, they admire you. When they respect you as a friend, they love you. When they respect you as a leader, they follow you".
REVIEW:
Though he started with a story, the author made clear how important respect gained from followers could do so much for a leader. He stressed with the story of Harriet Tubman what obeying this law would pay to leadership.
Furthermore, the author answered few questions like; what causes one person to respect and follow another? Is it because of the qualities of the leader? Is it due to a process the leader and follower engage in? Here are his answers which were born out of personal experience;
1. Natural leadership ability: if you posses natural leadership ability, people will follow you...but one of the greatest pitfalls in leadership is to depend on talent alone.
2. Respect for others: When leaders show respect for others, they gain respect from others.
3. Courage: Good leaders do what's right even at the risk of failure, in the face of great danger and under the brunt of relentless criticism.
4. Success: When leaders are successful in their endeavours, people respect them. When they succeed in leading the team to victory, the followers believe they can do it again.
5. Loyalty: When leaders stick with the team...even when the going gets tough...followers respect them and their actions.
6. Value added to others: Perhaps, the greatest source of respect for a leader comes from his or her dedication to adding values to others.
His work goes on to educate us on how to measure our level of respect which he explained is through knowing the calibre of people you attract and knowing the people who sign up for commitment or change anchored by you.
Closing, he reminded us of the law of the lid and process which sums up that there is always a room to grow and the more we grow, the more our respect rises and the better people we attract.
LESSONS:
1. Take a look again on the qualities that help leaders gain respect, evaluate yourself and start developing on them. Be conscious.
2. Read the 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership by John C. Maxwell...Law 7.

Law of Solid Ground
INTRODUCTION:
"Character makes trust possible. And trust makes leadership possible".
REVIEW:
As expected, the author answers few questions like how important trust is for a leader, what the leader stands to lose if he isn't trust worthy. He explained through experience why it is the most important thing as he termed it 'the foundation of leadership'.
According to the author, "trust is like a change in a leader's pocket. Each time you make a good leadership decision, you earn more change. Each time you make a poor decision, you pay out some of your change to the people. All leaders have certain amount of change in their pocket when they start a new leadership position. Whatever they do either builds up their change or depletes it. If leaders make one bad decision after another, they keep paying out change. Then one day, after making one last bad decision, they suddenly and irreparably run out of change".
The author explained explicitly that character is very essential in gaining trust as he pointed out that "if you don't have character within, you can't earn respect without". He did as much say that if you don't have character within, you can't earn trust without.
Concluding, we are warned of the consequences of neglecting this law, of breaking trust with our followers as he says, will diminish our influence as leaders.
LESSONS
1. Do a check on yourself. How trustworthy do your followers say you are?
2. Aim to develop your character especially in the areas of Integrity, Authenticity and Discipline.
3. Read 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership by John C. Maxwell...Law 6...

FSR: Fela Durotoye condems Government.
Since I got back into Nigeria yesterday, I have heard some preposterous arguments that the removal of the fuel subsidy will be justified by wise investments that will benefit all.
My response has been...How will a wasteful government suddenly realize the genius of prudence and making the right investment decisions simply bcs there is more money available from oil subsidy removal?
Will there be less graft & bribes involved in process of issuing the road contracts or power contracts?
Have we sought to honestly find every way we can plug wastage in our leaking economy before we ask a feeble populace to carry the burden of corruption and gross ineptitude of a gluttonous few?
Have the Presidency, the State & Local Governments and the Legislature discovered how to travel without a convoy of 20 cars to the airport?
Can the occupiers of these lofty positions act in honour as Barack Obama did in 2010 when he got every member of his cabinet to take a pay cut, starting with himself?
Within his first few days as British Prime Minister, David Cameron led the austerity cuts (upon his assumption) by cutting down his convoy to 2 cars and one outrider. The Members of Parliament in Britain are now only allowed 3rd class train tickets on official travel (as opposed to their traditional first class train ticket allowances). The Mayor of London now rides a bicycle to work.
Leadership by example!!!
How come our 'leaders' in government earn so much and still spend so much furnishing the same houses and offices they furnished with our money last year?
Do you furnish your office every year? Why should the President, Governor or Senate President?
Wasteful leadership cannot make prudent investments!!!!! Q.E.D
The change we need is not just policy. Its in the quality of mind and persons at policy making positions.
Fuel Subsidy Removal: 'I Wish' (A Nigerians' Plight).
IF I ENO PRAISE WERE PRESIDENT JONATHAN AT THIS TIME: I know I didn't create the problems we are facing. I know I didn't create the culture of waste that has characterized our country. But this is my chance to change it starting with myself. I will make a Nation-Wide Broadcast in which I will announce

SHIINE inspire!!!

Law of Addition
INTRODUCTION:
"If you desire to add value by serving others, you will become a better leader. And your people will achieve more, develop more loyalty and have a better time getting things done than you ever thought possible".
REVIEW:
I did say confidently in accordance with the author that people don't care how much you know until they know how much you care. The author made this obvious when he advised that, "when you add value to people, you lift them up, help them advance, make them a part of something bigger than themselves and assist them becoming who they were made to be".
Leadership is influence but it starts with service as he pointed out, the top position isn't the best place for leaders but the place the leader can serve the best and add the most value to other people.
The author denounces the general mindset of seeing leadership as a position to be sought after. This is what he has to say about it; "Many people view leadership the same way they view success, hoping to go as far as they can, to climb the ladder, to achieve the highest position possible for their talent but contrary to conventional thinking, I believe the bottom line in leadership isn't how far we advance ourselves but how far we advance others. That is achieved by serving others and adding values to their lives".
He stated and explained four guidelines to buttress his belief of the practice of adding value. They are as follows;
We add value when we truly value others.
When we make ourselves more valuable.
When we know and relate to what others value.
When we do what God values.
In essence, this law shows us the strength derived just from intentionally adding positive values to people. Like Albert Einstein was quoted, "only a life lived in the service of others is worth living".
LESSONS:
1. Conduct a check on yourself and be truthful to yourself.
2. Know your temperament and begin to be concious of serving others. Fake it until it becomes part of you.
3. Read 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership by John Maxwell...Law 3.

Law of Navigation
INTRODUCTION
"Anyone can steer the ship, but it takes a leader to chart the course".
REVIEW
The author explains how important a leader needs to see the journey he wants to take his followers to. To clarify this, he quoted Jack Welch that, "a good leader remains focused...controlling his direction is better than being controlled by it".
A leader is one who sees more than others see, who sees farther than others see, who sees before others do. He navigates the people he is leading to the goals/vision he had shown or given to them. According to the author, a leader navigates through;
Learning from past experience.
Examining the conditions before making commitments.
Listening to people's opinion.
Making sure their conclusion represents both faith and fact.
Thoroughly explained, the author insists on reflective thinking as it is an essential factor to becoming a good navigator as he revealed that failure gives greater lessons than our success.
In conclusion, the author advise, "when you prepare well, you convey confidence and trust to people...". This law in essence tells us the importance of having a clear vision and plans to reach it with our followers.
LESSONS:
1. Set a time to reflect everyday, every week or month depending on your capability.
2. Read 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership by John C. Maxwell...Law 4!!!

Law of Process
INTRODUCTION
"Becoming a leader is a lot like investing successfully in the stock market. If your hope is to make fortune in a day, you are not going to be successful..."
REVIEW:
Like I have often heard, "between us and our greatness lies a long bridge called training"; it's also true and supported by the author that between us and the great leaders we dream to become lies a longer bridge called process.
Have you recently used a computer? Maybe because we are so interested in the outputs that we forget how it was formed. Think about how the output would have been if it wasn't processed - useless- it would have been irrelevant. That is the work of process.
Clearly, the author answered a vital question that always come to me and a lot of people - "are leaders learners"?- when he declared that, "Successful leaders are learners. And the learning process is ongoing, a result of self discipline and perseverance...". He reassured us that leadership is developed daily not in a day but of course, it's not an easy task else everyone would have developed themselves.
Like he quoted an old saying, "Champions don't become champions in the ring, they are merely recognised there", he reminded us that everyone has the potential to become a great leader but it can't be done overnight, it requires perseverance. In his words, "Leadership develops daily, not in a day"!!!
LESSON:
1. Have a personal plan growth - I advise you do not procrastinate - read books, listen to tapes and CDs and attend seminars and conference.
2. Help in the personal growth of your followers, it helps develop and strengthens your leadership abilities.
3. Read 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership by John C. Maxwell ...Law 3!!!

Law of Influence
INTRODUCTION:
"The true measure of leadership is influence - nothing more, nothing less...and if you don't have influence, you will never be able to lead others"
REVIEW:
I can say it loud with great confidence that most definitions of leadership isn't what the author wants us to hold onto. Directly, he made it clear that leadership is influence and influence is what makes or destroys one's leadership ability.
He explained what true leadership is not - like he said, "true leadership cannot be awarded..." In his knowledge of leadership, he gave an insight over the five general myth about leadership which are as follows;
Misunderstanding management as leadership.
Misunderstanding entrepreneurs as leaders.
Taking intelligence/knowledge as leadership.
Misunderstanding the foreman as leaders.
Misunderstanding position as leadership.
Having said this, he removed the veil of ignorance and equipped us with better knowledge as he stated and explained several factors of how we could exert influence as leaders which are:
Who you are (character and attitude).
Who you know (your relationship with your followers).
What you know (knowledge).
What you feel (your intuition).
Where you have been (your experience).
What you have done (your past proven track records).
What you can do (what skills you 've got).
The bottom line about this law according to him is that, true leadership only comes from influence and it cannot be mandated but earned. Like he rightly quoted a leadership proverb, "he who thinks he leads but have no follower is only taking a walk". It's all about influence to become a leader not ruler (dictator).
LESSONS:
1. Understand that leadership is influence - try knowing your level of influence through your relationship with people. The first step to solving a problem is knowing the problem.
2. Try associating with leaders and people you know their level of influence is high...it boosts your esteem.
3. Read 21 irrefutable laws of leadership. Law 2!!!

Law of the Lid
INTRODUCTION: "Leadership ability is the lid that determines a person's level of effectiveness. The lower an individual's ability to lead, the lower the lid on his potential. The higher the individual's ability to lead, the higher the lid on his potential".
REVIEW: Explicitly, this law as stated by the author shows how one's leadership skill can affect his level of impact. It informs us that how wide or deep our knowledge, experience or expertise are tells the calibre of leaders we become and height of influence we exert and vice versa.
Furthermore, he supported the belief that everyone can be successful like he puts it that, "I believe that success is within the reach of just about everyone...". I couldn't help but noticing this very important discovery as he made it out that, "without leadership abilities, a person's impact is only a fraction of what it could be with good leadership".
You can agree with me that leadership ability can not be neglected in any sphere of life no matter how small and insignificant the environment might be - there is always a useFUL in a useLESS, you just have to fill the USE...
In a nutshell, this first law explains how important developing our leadership skills can be to us and the society we live in, at a point, our success might not be all that matters again but our leadership capabilities.
LESSONS:
1. Believe you can make a great leader.
2. List some of your major goals - identify which will require the participation of other people. For these activities, your leadership ability will greatly impact your effectiveness.
3. Asses your leadership ability - ask others to rate your skill on people skill, planning & strategic thinking, vision, result.
4. Read 21 irrefutable laws of leadership by John C. Maxwell.
