Following the misconception that has eaten deep in the minds of the youths today, it is vital to write on this topic. It has been on my mind for quite a while now and has haunted me but due to procrastination or should I say waiting for the right time, I couldn’t do anything. But today, today is very different-not just for me but also for you. As I picked my pen to write down the topic, it came to me; the memory, the forgotten. It came to me when I needed it most though without knowing what really I had wanted-THE STORY.
I remembered the story of a man who despite all odds, created history, who despite the challenges, converted them to his conveniences. I remembered the story of Thomas Edison, who despite being called a failure, made up his mind to continue what he had started already. As am writing this, I remembered exactly, word by word what I read, “I never worked in my life because, it was fun all through”. This were the words of a man who tried and tried before he finally created the light bulb. T his were the words of a man whose wife underestimated him and his friends disbelieved yet, he went on doing what he was doing.
I could remember, as I was reading, a question came to my mind. Actually, I was thinking aloud so a friend answered immediately, “HIS MIND WAS MADE UP”. At once, I gained control of myself and the situation but I couldn’t understand, was he reading with me or was I really talking instead of thinking. Just again the question came to me, “what really kept Thomas going”. Then I remembered the answer my friend gave me. Does it mean that people knows the solution to their GREATNESS and yet they dwell in poverty? Does it mean that people know actually that they are magnificent and yet they behave like mediocre. What was really happening? I couldn’t answer them-not with little time I was given.
I looked at my friend again-guess what, I asked him the question and behold he gave the same answer. Edison was inspired because he had shot his mind from what people were saying to him. He had decided that he would create a legacy and that no matter what come may, he would complete the good work he had started. That was his ‘mind set’. Van Crouch rightly observed, “you can’t change your actions until you change your mind”. That day, I decided to let my peers and many others know how great and powerful their mind can be if they should control it and channel it into the society for a positive change. That day, I decided to write this.
People walk around unaware of what they are. They roam in absolute ignorance about their true identity. They dwell in what they expect to be given without knowing they are capable of producing. They forget that they were made in the image of their creator, GOD. Truly ignorance has as a canker worm eaten deep in human.
According to Steven R. Covey, man comprises of ;the heart, the body, the spirit and the mind. Each with its different function. The mind he said was responsible for learning (growth and development). The mind is what I call the verve of motivation. Andrew Carnegie rightly said, “all earned riches and all true achievement originated from an idea”. The mind can be likened to the engine of a car of which without-though it has other parts-can do nothing.
Arguably, then mind is seen as the most important part that makes up man. Why? It is the aspect of intellect and consciousness experienced as a combination of thoughts, perception, memory, emotion, will and imagination including all unconsciousness. It is the unseen that brings out the seen, the unheard that is heard from. As elucidated in the story above, the mind is the main source. It determines you!
Could you pause fur a moment and think of what came to you now? What was it? The truth is this, you can never create what you have not seen. First, you picture your greatness before you direct others to see it. When the Fantasy Land was launched, a reporter walked up to Mrs. Disney, sympathized with her and said, “Mr. Disney would have been very proud if he had seen this”. But the woman replied, “my husband has seen this before commissioning it before he died”. Walt Disney died before realizing that dream but at least, it originated from his mind. As he advised, “if you can dream it, you can make it”.
As the mind is very important and powerful, it is also very fragile. Without proper training and control of the mind, it absolve whatever it is given without proper selection. If Abraham Lincoln had succumbed to the abuses and failures he got, perhaps we would not have known him. If Isaac Newton had obeyed his mother, if he had not gone back to school, maybe the laws he wrote would be yet to be discovered. This people and more are great because they made up their minds and had total control of it. They knew what they wanted and went for it despite what may come. They controlled their actions because their minds were already made up.
The truth is as the engine of a car needs oil, there things the mind needs to always be effective.
-God’s inspiration
-Educative, motivational and inspirational books, magazines et cetera -Attending productive seminars and workshops.
-Making friends with the same goal.
-Meeting vision oriented people.
` -Having mentors and advisers.
There are many other points to write down or perhaps, you already know some but all sums up to ingesting positive materials and thoughts to your mind for positive thinking that leads to effectiveness and greatness.
You are meant to be great, to show the way to others. You are the chosen one as people success are tied to yours. No matter what people say you are, no matter your background, your age, your handicap, you are an epitome of greatness but you just need to educate YOU! REMEMBER, YOUR MIND IS YOUR ENGINE.
I am glad to have revealed this to you. At least my heart is at rest. But you still have a work to do, pass this message to others as two heads are better than one. You are great, I am great, together individually, we are unstoppable!
